The New #iPhone5S to Rely on Google #Technology?

Apple, iPhone 5S, TechnologyBesides the big map app debacle, will Apple’s future success rely on borrowing more Google technology and which mobile phone company might completely change the game in the next year?

There is more disappointment today for those who received Apple devices as gifts during the holidays. In addition to a new iPad already rolling into production, Apple has a new iPhone 5S expected to hit shelves by June.

For some the new iPhone 5S might be a welcome change with better touch technology from a new panel provider but more significantly this all adds to Apple’s fall from its once stellar and trusted reputation for incredible products and a customer-centric philosophy, and the tech company’s stock price is certainly reflecting that.

Perhaps there will be some help for Apple from licensing Google’s patents?

Google, who must ease up on licensing, otherwise got a free pass from the FTC anti-trust probe. Despite Microsoft’s complaints few doubted they would, especially after so many claimed the search giant played a significant role in the Obama re-election victory.

Still Google isn’t perfect and despite the popularity of Android, competitors are already preparing to launch their own OS solutions. Most notable is mobile giant Samsung who is beginning to move to a new operating system with several new devices this year and which allows it to better own customers in 2013 and beyond.

Perhaps the most important take away for businesses and startups working on new launches is that no one platform can be relied upon for ensuring future profitability and long term success. Like those who built their businesses on Facebook, if you rely on someone else’ platform for continued revenues, then there will come a day when they fail to deliver.

The real winners in 2013 and beyond will be those who not only capitalize on the technology of others but devote more resources to building up their own domain with great content and dominate their market with great vanity phone numbers.
