Sprint Introduces Vanity Phone Number Service “StarStarMe” by: 00juno , October 11, 2012 It goes without saying that vanity phone numbers are simple to remember. Their memorability has led to strides in availability for customers to come in contact with businesses through a simple call or click. Not to mention the instant credibility and brand recognition that vanity numbers can bring to businesses. But let’s not limit the conversation to businesses, at least that’s how Sprint is looking at it. With the expansion of mobile networking, the phone service provider is offering a whole new solution for easy-to-remember vanity numbers with a brand new $2 a month service known as Star-Star-Me. Ten-digit numbers can present a challenge to memorize, and sometimes the scribbling on a napkin can’t be trusted and with the way we import our contacts, how many ten-digit numbers can you really name off the top of your head? If you want to be easily accessible personally, you can instead say “Star-Star-Me!” and be contacted by simply dialing “**” and an available vanity spelling of your choosing. As stated in a press release prepared by Sprint, Vice President of Product and Technology Development, Kevin McGinnis stated, “Sprint customers will be the first people to get Star-Star-Me. We expect this service to be especially popular with professionals, students, and family customers who can tailor its use to their individual preferences, lifestyles, and interests with a few simple clicks.” Who knows? Perhaps “Star-Star” could integrate itself into our culture much as the words “tag”, “tweet”, “poke”, “digg”, and even “fax” have. The service will also come with a new app available for Android and iOS users, with automatic text back, number blocking, and an even easier-to-send contact sheet than your existing contacts list. It has yet to be seen if this Star-Star service will integrate into Twitter/Facebook and other social media platforms. Vanity phone numbers can make a major difference in communications, and while new innovations for prefixes to help better connect may arise, they are only catching on to what the 800 toll free number wave has brought the telephonic surf. Whether it be a star, a hash tag or an old-fashioned dial tone, a vanity phone number is right at your reach. And even today through the advancements of handsets and apps, they still make way for the most memorable and effective means of communication.
