Social Media, Technology, Startups, EntrepreneursStartups are embracing social media in a big way but how can entrepreneurs make sure their efforts are effective?

Here are seven tips for better social media for startups:

1. Don't Fake it
Facebook's purging of fake likes has cost many brands tens and even hundreds of thousands of fans. Don’t waste the money on it. Focus on organic networking and sharing.

2. Be Outrageous
As a new born company you don't have much to lose and certainly aren't restricted by all of the concerns large corporations are tied up by. So be innovative with design and interaction.

3. Crowdsource
Crowdsource all you can via social. The more user content generated the more sharing and the cheaper content creation is for you, not to mention getting a nice boost in search engine rankings. Solicit feedback and suggestions to speed up development and give VCs and potential investors what they want to see.

4. Don't Let Social Media Drag You Down
Social might be essential and exciting but don't let it slow your real progress. You do need to start building a social network from day one, but stick to a tight core base of networks to begin with. Do Facebook and Twitter because you have to but choose LinkedIn and Google+ because they can help you get funding, attract talent, and do real business.

5. Expand for More Visibility
Need more buzz and visibility? Consider launching a Kickstarter campaign whether you want the money or not and start guest blogging.

6. Don't Forget Offline
Social media is awesome but what's even better is driving in real live prospects and shipping products. So consider how you can use toll free vanity numbers to push more prospects to pick up the phone and connect, whether it is contests or special promotions.
