Reserving a Vanity Number

Toll Free Number, Vanity NumberWhen you reserve a vanity number (or any toll-free number), what exactly does that imply? It means that, for a period of 45 days, the toll-free number is "reserved" to you and nobody else can claim it. It isn't necessarily your number yet, but during that 45 day period while you arrange all the details of setting up your new vanity number, you are guaranteed that it will remain available.

There is no cost for reserving a vanity number. The cost comes when you activate the number as yours. What isn't possible, though, renewing the reservation. So you can reserve a vanity number and think about it for up to 45 days, and during that period activate the number which makes it yours for a longer period of time.

Of course, the chance that you will change your mind and decide not to activate your vanity number is pretty small, if it's a number that will work for your business. So why would you bother reserving the number? Why not just activate it right away?

Well, if you have everything ready to go to use your vanity number, the answer is "no reason at all!" But you may want to prepare advertising materials to reflect your new vanity number, and there may be arrangements to make as far as the phone line to transfer your vanity number to, training your employees in how to answer the phone lines if that is to change, and so on.

Activating your vanity number before all this is ready to go might incur unnecessary costs, and could create confusion for your customers. Once you've found your number and determined that it's available, reserving it is a way to make sure there are no disappointments between that happy, exciting discovery and getting your vanity number actually working for you!
